All the comments here are pretty right on. This is no boon. Its not an ammonia engine, it’s an ammonia reformer, and hydrogen ICE. Further when the hydrogen is stripped off the nitrogen, something has to fill in the spaces, and sadly, its not nitrogen from the air, its oxygen. So these things fart out nitrous oxide or nitrous dioxide. Bad.

Finally, storage. Ask any heat treat plant: storing NH3 is cumbersome and dangerous. Ammonia tends to corrode storage containers and worse, a small leak can kill people as the toxicity level is 200 ppm.

Toyota should be focusing on their awesome upcoming battery tech
