Another article where the author can correctly identify issues , problems and inequities (this is not really a very hard task, frankly) and then points the finger at the concept he or she clearly doesn't understand. All the things you hate here are due to the exact opposite of capitalism, they are due to government's (and voters, frankly) desire to control.
Student loan's only became this large of a problem when the government took on the responsiblity of supplying grants and loans, removing this from banks and foundations that were supplying these in a way people could afford. Go ahead, spend some time looking at the cost. relative to the amount of government support via loans and grants. Same with medicine and health care, when the government takes on more and more of the cost, guess what happens? Companies change the prices to meet what the government pays out, which the government matches once again. This scheme has been played out in education and the military for decades. The problem is government, centralization, doling out money to companies that are charging what they can get. It's public cost and risk, private profit.... this is not capitalism, never was. It's corporatism, if you are dying for a word, but corporatism is a sad side effect of socialism, its socialism with too much lasse faire, because to have it you need to implement strong controls, which Americans do not want. Maybe you want it, but sure as hell don't speak for Americans.
Where is the competition to attract consumers, directly? Where is the incentive to innovate to beat down the big players? How can new companies displace the older behemoths, like amazon, when regulations, fees, and intellectual property, all enforced by a central government, get in the way of this? Heck, right now all these corporation don't even have to worry about having customers, they only have to worry about one single customer, the government.
Like every single leftist I have ever read or or listened to, you place all the things you hate in a box, and call the box "capitalism", then say "See? These awful things are in capitalism! We must stop it!" The real, fundamental problem is the very thing you are supporting: centralization of goods and services, which empowers awful people to do awful things. Leftism is the worst worldview ever implemented by humanity leading to normally unimaginable levels of suffering. The more of it we have, the more of the ills you mention we get in society. You should look in a mirror next time you write about how awful things are.
