Fukushima was running years outside of its intended operating lifetime. Not one person was hurt from Three mile island and it still produced significant power for another 20 years. And chernobyl was a real disaster
But the point is that this design of nuclear reactors was never a result of a market decision. It was politics because that design has a by product of making cheaper plutonium for weapons.
Newer designs do not melt down. Have you heard if an aircraft carrier or submarine meltdown?
Pebble bed designs as well as other do not need that kid of cooling. They are smaller and the reactions uranium hydride are thermally self limiting.
