Good god, we don’t even have capitalism and never have. Tge problem is not capitalism at all and never was.
The problem is the socialization of risk and the privatization of reward. This is specifically NOT capitalism in any way.
If you wanted to blame capitalism for fossil fuel burning, the all (and more would have to be true)
1) roads and car infrastructure would have had to have been paid for by private companies and individuals
2) refineries would have had to have been 100% paid for by private entities
3) pipelines would not only have had to have been paid for by private entities, but none of the land that they cross could be publicly owned. Pipeline companies would have to negotiate with each landowner that the pipeline crossed.
4) “research” (exploration) would have to be privately funded
5) security abroad would have to be paid for by private entities
When these (and more) are actually done, then we can start talking about how capitalism is ruining the world.
Frankly, if capitalism were guiding this stuff, we would see better attention paid to reducing cost a d maximizing efficiency. We would see more mass transport, more localized solutions.
Until then, lets blame the systems of government that forcibly take money from citizens and pools it, while printing even more, and then lets a few people decide for millions of others how it gets spent.
What is that called? What do we call societies that have more of that than others.
