I was about to share this article with the comment “I cant think of any showstoppers that doesnt exist for any other planet” and then I thought of one: access to raw materials.

On Mars there is water, iron, tons of minerals, etc etc. A base there acts as a portal to access these materials.

Venus? in the air? not so much, all new materials would have to be transported from earth or an asteroid.
