Interesting, I was going about to write a very similar article. I would take it one step farther….

Climate Change may save humanity from itself. Defunding the pentagon is a small part of the path to doing something about climate change. Any solution that starts with “The government needs to….” is a non-starter. Seriously, that person can be ignored from that point forward with one exception:

The entire government needs to be dismantled and entirely defunded.

Why? For the same reason the Pentagon is part of the problem, the government at large (all of them) is also the problem. They all concentrate power which attracts psychopaths. Worse these psychos think they know how to steer the actions of millions of people. Worse still, they will act in ways that benefit their personal worldviews. They all extort money from people with the barrel of guns. But what do they do with all this money? They make pollution and climate change worse. Every one of them. It’s not a contraversial statement,

Through subsidies, grants and tax incentives, they lower the cost of roads, gas and other infrastructure in ways that make cars seem attractive. Thus we get pollution and urban sprawl. Government granted risk reduction is given to corporation so the leaders of those corporations are free to take unrealistic tax payer funded risks. Thus when those fail, site are declared as superfund sites, or they go bankrupt or a number of other risk reduction, tax payer funded sweep-it-under-the-rug techniques get employed. In general, government makes tragedy of the commons worse in almost every case.

We are better than this. When government is smaller, regional, local, it’s far easier to make it scared of the people. No one cares if people march in D.C.. But you can tear down the leadership in a week in Puerto Rico.

The days of the nation-state are numbered. Climate change is what may bring it down. But as long as people keep thinking government is the solution, Climate change will continue to wreak havoc.
