It, quite literally, is not. You have been misinformed. The job of the government is to maintain the status quo. Which is fine, if you like the status quo.

The status quo means doing what the wealthy want, and to do what the non-wealthy want, as long as it works for the wealthy. Don’t believe me?

There have been numerous studies that show that public opinion doesn’t matter to congress, it does NOT matter which party is in power. Here is a summary.

If you feel that falsified video is a problem, you should make the case that this is a social problem (as you did), but then band together with like minded people to create detection software or certification bodies that help the public know what is fake and what is real.

Relying on government to fix anything is the path to madness and misfortune.
