This was an incredibly frustrating article for me to read because I agree with so much of it. Leaving aside the Libra, fiat, and banks triangle for a moment, I fully agree with you that UX has been, continues to be, and will be the main reason people don’t go into crypto. I have been in since 2013 and it STILL seems hokey to me at many levels. A good UX between people and the value of their assets is totally missing. All we have are various versions of bad UXs between people and specific cryptocurrencies.
The project I have been part of and have been working with for over a year now, is The Divi Project. They entered into crypto with laser focus on this specific issue since day one. Please forgive what will look like shilling. The point is that these guys are way ahead on thinking about UX, and here are some of the things they are doing.
The first thing they did was make the launching of a masternode 1-click. A real one click. The focus on getting masternodes launched was so that users could have an easy path to earning income in the Divi economy. The masternodes are tiered, so there is a low barrier to entry. Funds can also be staked, lowering the barrier even further. Then, they attacked a bunch of things that you can see in other wallets, but not together in one wallet, particularly a mobile wallet.
1) Human readable addresses. For god sake’s why isn’t this standard by now? Divi’s version has a decentralized nameserver, unlike other coins.
2) In wallet atomic swaps. Why the hell do we still need to go to an exchange to change currency?
3) Ability to launch an income earning masternode, with 1 click, from inside the mobile wallet
4) Ability to launch a masternode for other coins from their wallet with one click.
5) Multi coin storage and fiat on-ramp/off-ramp in wallet
6) Governance. Letting the users of the currency decide the path forward, but also to approve projects that people propose and to pay them. Like a mini nation with no guns pointed at anyone to remain in it.
7) All with a clean, easy to understand interface for everyone.
All of this together is coming out in an imminent release. While Divi has masternodes, and has been rated really high as one, it’s not a masternode coin per se. It’s truly intended to make crypto easy for everyone and be the programmable , frictionless, money we want without being the centralized, corporate lapdog for fiat.
Meanwhile Facebook and their fiat cartel does absolutely nothing to to allow people to participate in their economy besides being consumers, basically giving money to these entities.
In this case, Facebook will nail UX but fail in HX….human experience.
