Why would lockdown ever end?
The conditions that justified lockdown in the first place will always exist
Note: I wrote this in 2020. I have no idea why I never hit the publish button. I just forgot about it. Look at it as a time travel viewing glass. I have not edited it at all. I am a very libertarian person, but I wrote it acquiescing to the fact that Puerto Rico is heavily controlled by a government. Two, in fact.
This article is written by a resident of Puerto Rico, the only area of the United States that locked down quickly, decisively, and completely.
Dear Governor Vázquez,
You never expected this when you decided to stay on after ex-governor Ricardo Rosselló was chased out of office did you? I have true sympathy for you in the wake of this nasty virus. No one expects the apocalyplse when they are in charge. I imagine you hope things run in a way that the government organization handles normally, and maybe you can have some positive influence, perhaps impart some positive change.
But this virus changes everything on the island.
We had a myriad of problems that have been kicked down the road to governor after governor. Trash, homeless, debt, domestic violence, a fragile economy based on tourism, the local effects of climate change on our reefs, our entire blue economy, to name just a few. And now, contrary to historical Puerto Rican society, comprised of some of the most friendly, the most social people on the planet, we have to distance…
