Wow, a whole article written around a false dichotomy. Yes, you should be good at your job. But if the job is too much for you, maybe that isn’t your job. But the alternative isn’t homelessness and eating rats. This is a moronic premise.

If you personally dicked around watching videos and didn’t know how to actually perform your job, why in the world would you think you should be paid for that job?

Instead, find another job. One with fewer responsibilities, better hours, with things that you may actually like about it. Or, start your own thing. Or go back to school. Or join the military. Or move out of the place that only has jobs for A players, and find a place that has jobs for B or C players like yourself. You can be good at those jobs.
